Poshte, Annona scleroderma, is a super delicious and interesting Cherimoya relative. This is one of the highly coveted and not so often seen members that has fruit with the classic custardy texture and sweet taste, although this one’s got a little something extra. Some say the flavor has notes of mango or white sapote, I couldn’t quite pinpoint it but they were really good and I’m excited to grow them. I’ve heard a lot of people sing their praises and it’s one of the fruits that has had a curiosity sparked for me when a barista at this craft coffee shop mentioned it to me. I knew I had to grow it from that point on!
This tree is typically found growing in tropical regions with it’s native range mainly centered around Central America. There aren’t many reports of people growing it in more temperate zones (9b+) but I want to have hope that they will do well here. Truly an interesting, beautiful and delicious Annona that is a must have if you are into Annonaceae!
